Crackdown on Employers Flouting UK Visa Rules

The UK government is intensifying measures against firms violating visa rules, doubling sanctions for repeat offenders from 12 months to at least two years. Employers exploiting workers by evading minimum wage laws or passing sponsorship costs onto employees will face stricter penalties under the new Employment Rights Bill.

Key updates include:

  • Stronger action plans: Binding rule-breaking businesses into year-long improvement measures.
  • Hiring restrictions: Offending firms are banned from hiring overseas workers.
  • Care sector focus: Over 450 sponsor licenses are revoked since July 2022 due to worker exploitation.

Migration Minister Seema Malhotra emphasizes that worker exploitation is unacceptable, particularly in the care sector, where reforms aim to protect vulnerable international workers.
